Many of us are familiar with this type of railroad grade crossing signal. Two lights alternately flash when a train is coming. The crossing signal is labeled with Rail Road Crossing. A bell sits atop the signal and rings while the lights flash. This signal is functional so that visitors can watch and hear and see it operating. This style is still very common across the country on less-used roads. Roads that have more traffic typically have a crossing gate arm added to the configuration shown here. |
